Transcecal IIeostomy

Abstract
Trancecal Ileostomy, a method of drainage of the small intestine, is described which avoids the

dangers usually encountered, ie, leakage and adhesions which may be the source of future obstruction. Our experience with those patients; appendicitis (3 cases), intestinal obstruction (4 cases), strang

ulated intestinal obstruction (3 cases), ileum perforation (5 cases), and reperforation of ileum (2

cases) has shown that this method may be used for the following reasons.

1. To achive a release of pressure-n in either the small or large intestine.

2. To maintain prolonged drainage of the small intestine so as to prevent swelling of the abdomen

within the first few postoperative days. before intestinal activity has returned to normal.

3. To prevent the occurence of obstruction of the ileum in the first day after the operation by

incompatible with life adhesions.

4. To enable the patient to partake of a normal diet at the earlist possible time.

.5. To bypass carcinomatous obstruction, thereby alleviating the patient¢¥s suffering and prolonging his activity,to eat normally.
